A Positive Spin on the Centromere

چکیده
The properties of centromeric nucleosomes have been the subject of considerable debate and controversy. Furuyama and Henikoff (2009) now provide surprising evidence that centromeric nucleosomes wrap DNA in an orientation that is opposite to that of canonical nucleosomes.

Chromosome C-banding in Mus musculus L.1766 Strains Shows a Fixed Position for the Centromere and Variable Amounts in Different Populations
Three subspecies of Mus musculus have been recognized in Iran so far. The house mouse (genus0T 0T2TMus2T, species0T 0T2TMus musculus2T) are recognized for their highly conserved morphology and chromosomal structure, but some chromosomal characters offer accurate taxonomic markers in this species that has been shown any unambiguous diagnostic morphological traits. Among the chromosomal character...
متن کاملOccurance of scleroderma-Sjogren intermediate phenotype and Addison’s disease in a patient: case report
Background: Association of Addison's disease with connective tissue diseases such as scleroderma and Sjogren have been rarely reported. Anti-centromere antibody (ACA) has been associated with exocrine gland dysfunction in anti-Ro, anti-La negative Sjogren’s syndrome and may be one of the causes of xerostomia in community. The purpose of this article was to introduce a rare case of scleroderma-S...

A cytogenetic study was performed in lymphocytes of hospital workers occupationally exposed to X- and gamma-rays using the micronucleus centromere assay. A comparison of the data for the exposed group and an age-matched group of non-exposed hospital workers showed a significant (P < 0.05) increase in centromere-positive micronuclei for the radiation workers, while no effect on centromere-negati...
متن کاملAdaptive evolution of foundation kinetochore proteins in primates.
Rapid evolution is a hallmark of centromeric DNA in eukaryotic genomes. Yet, the centromere itself has a conserved functional role that is mediated by the kinetochore protein complex. To broaden our understanding about both the DNA and proteins that interact at the functional centromere, we sought to gain a detailed view of the evolutionary events that have shaped the primate kinetochore. Speci...
متن کاملWidespread Positive Selection Drives Differentiation of Centromeric Proteins in the Drosophila melanogaster subgroup
Rapid evolution of centromeric satellite repeats is thought to cause compensatory amino acid evolution in interacting centromere-associated kinetochore proteins. Cid, a protein that mediates kinetochore/centromere interactions, displays particularly high amino acid turnover. Rapid evolution of both Cid and centromeric satellite repeats led us to hypothesize that the apparent compensatory evolut...
